Club Caramel – Teray Bin (KM Single Review)

By Hasan Faridi

I was surprised to know the popularity of Pakistani group Club Caramel. They’ve gone as far as being on television, being promoted by a magazine and have done an Adele cover. With the new single “Teray Bin”, released alongside a brand-new video, the Club may well become sensations.

The new single “Teray Bin” was mixed and mastered at the A & A Studio, in Lahore (Pakistan) and written, composed and produced by Adnan Sarwar.

Kiran Chaudhry is on vocals, Adnan Sarwar strums away, Sameer Ahmed plays the bass, Ahsen Pappu flies the flute and Farhan Albert arranges the keyboard and drums.

The journey of Club Caramel started when Kiran and Adnan met at a gig in Lahore. A small chat led to the two of them merging together and performing together. The two artists then created a full band line-up and held their first cover show in 2006.

Now the song “Teray Bin” seems to aim for the mellow music listeners, who love the tunes of smooth acoustics with a Middle Eastern touch. The melody itself, captures an essence of the classical music genre, mixed in with traditional Pakistani music. An elegant touch indeed.

There have been various responses to this song. The bad ones are in regards with the singing, that the vocals are ‘weak’ and not ‘up to scratch’. But what is to be noted is that the song is perfect with soothing vocals. You wouldn’t want anyone screaming over such a delicate track.

There is that point. And there is also the other point: Could you actually sing like that?

On a positive note, the video responses have been really great so far, exactly how they should be.

The video is beautiful and nearly better than the song itself. Compared to the video of “Zindagi”, there is one striking difference between the two. “Zindagi” is absolutely cheesy, so cheesy it was recorded at Pizza Hut whilst “Teray Bin” on the other hand, is gothic and dark.

The level of gothic-ness is definitely similar to Jal’s “Sajni”, dark and eerie, but minus the bad Beauty And The Beast imitation.

It is a brilliant change to the usual mainstream videos, which normally focus their attention to a badass attitude, glitz and glamour which have been done to death. But looking at this song in regards with what Club Caramel have previously done, it is a big improvement and deserves recognition for the effort.

If you’re going to criticise the Club, you are officially allergic to Caramel. Or…

You might find yourself (like in the video) being poisoned and stabbed by a beautiful singer.
