سن کہ نے کہتی ہے اپنی داستان
sun kih nai kehti hai apni daasataan
listen! for the the reed-flute narrates its tale
دردِ ہجراں سے ہوئی ہے نوحہ خواں
dard-i hijraan se hui hai nauha-khaan
through the pain of separation, it has become a wailer
کاٹ کر لائے نیستاں سے یہاں
kaat kar laae naisitaan se yahaan
hacking me from the reed-bed, they brought me here
مرد و زن میری نوا سے خون چکاں
mard o zan meri nawa se khoon-chakaan
men and women, through my song, (become) blood-weeping
جو بھی اپنی اصل سے ہوگا جدا
jo bhi apni asal se hoga juda
whatever will be ripped from its source
ہوگا وصلِ خویش اس کا مدّعا
hoga wasl-e khesh us ka mudda’a
union with self would be its object
