Annie’s Leaked Album Review

by Hasan Faridi

Track leaks are normally godsends, but it’s a sticky situation with Pakistani Pop Singer Annie where people are feeling a mix of confusion, shock and awe. Most of Annie’s upcoming album hasn’t even been scheduled for release, yet most of it has made its way over the Internet by an unidentified sneaky source.

Growing up with a passion and desire to pursue in the field of music, Annie took up extra-curricular activities related to music to achieve her dream. To kick-start her passion, she wrote a song named “Mahiya” at the age of 18, a song sung in English and Urdu. The mix of languages can also be seen in her songs today, combining East with West.

Month’s later, “Mahiya” was being recognized by Pakistan. It made chart records and was the most highly played and accessed song of 2005/06. After the release of a video, it was selected by Mahesh Bhatts Awarapan, making Annie one of the first females of Pakistan to sing for an Indian movie.

This was only the beginning of Annie. She has won the Most Wanted Female awards along with many other achievements. She had been the Pepsi Ambassador of Pakistan, popular also by the faces of musical sensations Britney Spears and J-Lo and Annie is currently the female Ambassador of Pakistan. Recently, she has recorded singles for her upcoming album. OK, most of the singles are already here even though they may not be fully mastered.

These leaks are enthralling and captivating pieces. As the intros of “Tu Woh Nahin”, “Listen For” and “Kiya Yehi Piyar Hai” set an emotional mood, the song is like that of a chapter of a fairy-tale book, telling a mellow story. The instrumentals are slow-tempo but powerful at the least. Watch out for “Listen For”, it has the power to go International.

Remember the use of multiple languages? Annie perfects it in such up-tempo tracks to get you on the dance-floor like “Kehdo Na Piyar” and “Do You See Me”. Groove on to these floor-fillers.

“Kali Raat” encompasses the whole Middle-Eastern musical touch, featuring the likes of the famed Dhol drum. As it bangs your eardrums, Annie’s music resembles a typical Bhangra song. But of course, we need variety in an album. It all changes when “Jaane Jaan” plays, which is filled with Western influences to bring minds together. Minds from all over the globe that is.

Each song suits the needs of all ears. If these leaks are supposedly not even mastered… what’s more to come?

Despite to what is thought as controversial, it serves the fans and the beautiful artist as a hidden tool of promotion, which doesn’t normally come out from the Pakistani music industry. How many more articles and comments will be about Annie? She’s talented and all, but these leaks are proving to be of a good use. She’s gaining more free publicity and leaks are quiet common this day and age so it’s not a big deal. These tracks however, fuel the flame. When the album releases, make sure you get it while it’s hot!
