Noori, at present is a two member band by the brothers Ali Noor and Ali Hamza. Initially when it started the band consisted of four members including Louis J Pinto (AKA Gumby) and Ali Jaffri apart from the brothers. The name Noori is not derived from Ali Noor. Noori is a Persian word which means “light” and the concept behind the band was the light which shows you things with a different perspective. Noori’s songs are about young people.
Noori started 7 years before their first album “Suno Ke Main Hun Jawan” which came in 2003. Before Noori, Ali Noor worked with coven and released an album called “Not in your world”. Noori has been famous for their live acts. Their second album was released in 2005. {Read More…}
A Pakistani legend in his own right, Rohail Hyatt is an award winning artist and producer par excellence whose art is in a state of constant dynamism, from his formative years on the 1980’s pop scene, to his leadership of the pioneering band Vital Signs, to his collaborations with icons ranging from Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Ustaad Saami to film-maker Shoaib Mansoor. {Read More…}
First season of Coke Studio was based on mainstream artists and featured experienced musicians. This season however features new musicians and some underground too. I think Coke Studio always wanted to bring new musicians but they didn’t want to expirement that at early stage and wanted to make a stronger base for the show first. First season got remarkable fame and so Rohail Hyatt picked up young musicians for the second season as he wanted. New line up of Coke Studio includes Omran Shafique of Mauj, Zeb and Haniya, Maryam Kizilbash (Mano), Jaffer Zaidi of Kaavish, Asad Ahmed of Karavan and Noori. I believe Coke Studio’s 2nd Season should be 100 percent more fun . It would be truly fun to have Zeb and Haniya and Maryam Kizilbash in the show and Omran Shafique has always been my favorite.
Yes it is fully confirmed that noori would be performing at the second season of Coke Studio sessions. It is indeed an honor and also a great opportunity for the band to rethink and restructure the existing noori numbers. The most exciting thing for us, though, is that the brothers would again be reuniting with Gumby for these performances. Other musicians include Asad Ahmed, Omran Shafique, Manoo, Jafar Zaidi and many more extremely talented maestros .
Hats off to Rohail Hayat…
It is going to be one amazing Jam!!!
Yesterday was the Jam

Slumdog Millionaire: A Disappointment!
Just finished watching Slumdog Millionaire. What the hell was it?
I try my best to be pretty less critical about most of the stuff I see. I even watched 8 seasons of “Charmed” and have enjoyed lots of chick flicks….
I went to cinemas in Delhi and saw movies that I would never dare to buy as DVDs in Pakistan, and still came out feeling my money’s well spent, if not for anything but the impact and ambience of the cinema hall and sound etc.
But with this movie I simply felt disturbed. Please don’t for a minute think that the depiction of the slums disturbed me. I have been to India enough to breathe the poverty in (one big reason why my love for Pakistan just does not cease to diminish) .
..what was it it…i can’t seem to place it…
For starters the movie is surely too damn overrated. Secondly I smell serious propaganda here… is this a primer of the “real” India for the West? {Read More…}
