Lux Style Awards 2012: Music Winners & Event Pictures

This year’s Lux Style Awards were held at the Expo Center in Karachi. The awards started with an amazing rap performance by Entity Paradigm‘s Ahmed Ali Butt, who was also the host for the night. The highlight of the show was Ali Zafar’s tribute to the late King of Ghazal Mehdi Hassan sahab.

This year, the awards for music category, especially that for Best Emerging Talent, received deserving attention. The big winners at the awards were Ali Zafar, who received the award for the Best Music Album for “Jhoom” from Mekaal Hasan and Zoe Viccaji, and Quratulain Balouch, who received two awards – Song of the Year and Best Original Soundtrack – for none other than “Woh Humsafar Tha,” which was produced by Waqar Ali for the drama series “Humsafar.”

The award for Best Music Video Director as per LSA voting was given to Adnan Malik for “Mera Bichra Yaar” (by Zoe Viccaji & Strings).

The Lux Style Award for this year’s Best Music Album went to Ali Zafar for the well deserved “Jhoom”. The award was presented by Mekaal Hassan and Zoe Viccaji amid much applause and admiration. Despite Ali Zafar’s big win, the highlight of the evening was his moving tribute to the late King of Ghazal Mehdi Hassan with a soulful redition of “Mujhay Tum Nazr Say Girah Tou Rahay Ho”.

Ali Zafar later got the party started by putting on an electrifying performance with Humaima Malik to the beat of “Jhoom” and “Madhubala”. There wasn’t one audience member who did not walk away complimenting the act. The Lux Style Awards were held at the renowned Expo Centre in Karachi and remain the only Awards Academy in Pakistan that include all the categories of music, entertainment and fashion. read more

LUX Style Awards 2012: Music Nominations

Nominations for the 11th LUX Style Awards were announced in Karachi this week. The Awards office of Pakistan’s most credible and coveted Awards released nominations in 26 categories in the genres of Film, Music, Television and Fashion.

The LSA Film Jury voted for Bol across all three categories. Shoaib Mansoor’s Bol was the sole film that made the grade and qualified as a bonafide entrant for an Award that is given out for excellence in cinema.

While Ali Zafar has multiple mega hit tracks to his name with lots of awards and vast recognition, it wasn’t until very recently that the poster boy for Pak-Pop showed the world that he deserves all the attention for his music. The improvement was first highlighted with his various appearances in Coke Studio series, performing some of his old material but mostly leaning towards a new soulful musical direction. This great musical growth was sustained pretty well in his 3rd album “Jhoom” which was released by his own label Alif Records (and by YRF Music in India) roughly a year ago.

Ali Zafar and Katrina Kaif have bonded quite well since they became co-stars in the YRF‘s latest release “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan“. Not just that, Zafar also gave her guitar lessons and the two have bonded musically too.

Zafar wagered with his co-star Katrina that if the movie collects more than 50 crores in the first 2 weeks of hitting the cinemas, she will have to star in the Zafar’s next music video. Katrina humbly accepted the bet and apparently Ali won based on a box office report by Taran Adarsh, an Indian analyst.
