Although there are quite a few programs that are aired in the summer time, still there is a new entrant in to the arena who are actually no new when it comes to music. Pepsi who have been one of the biggest supporters of Pakistani music industry since its inception are once again back into the business with not just a single sponsored track but a whole new show that is going to start from 1st May, this Wednesday.

Titled as Pepsi Smash, the show is said to focus more on the electronic side of music and to introduce the audience to a newer version of the music that they have been listening all along.

There is definitely something big cooking up in the music circles in Lahore.

According to our sources, this mega project is titled as Pepsi Smash, and as the name states, this will be sponsored by the beverage giants Pepsi.

After the success of Coke Studio with Rohail Hayat, it was obvious that Pepsi would come up with something to counter it. One of our sources tells us that Pepsi had been planning a project like Coke Studio for three years, and originally Shahi Hasan was supposed to handle it.

Our sources now confirm that the project will be handled by Farhad Humayun of Overload fame, but we will still have to wait till we get to know about the whole team working behind Smash.

CityFM89 celebrates World Music Day across the country (Pictures)

On Friday, the 22nd of June 2012, CityFM89 celebrated World Music Day in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad simultaneously. 20 up and coming Pakistani bands performed in the three cities.

The Karachi event took place at Port Grand. Khalid Malik of The Breakfast Show on CityFM89 hosted the evening. The show started off with Hassan Hussain performing Pakistani pop classics and his original single “Rangeen Raat” Up next was 7 on 3rd, fronted by Gibran Nasir, who performed covers of popular songs such as Adele’s Rolling In The Deep and Vital Signs’ ‘Dil Dil Pakistan.’

Speculation of Salman Ahmad and Junaid Jamshed working together in the studio emerged online when Salman hinted a collaboration with JJ a few months ago over a tweet.

But now there is definite confirmation because this morning Salman gave everyone the scoop. He tweeted a link to a photo of himself and Junaid jamming at his home in Karachi, saying, “Junaid & Salman, Dil Dil Pakistan & Jazba rehearsal at home in Karachi”. Apparently the dream of many music enthusiasts has come true

Shoaib Mansoor To Write Lyrics For Junoon 20th Anniversary Album

Legendary film-maker and story teller, Shoaib Mansoor who has also been a successful songwriter and music composer will for the first time write lyrics for Junoon.

Besides being a mentor to Vital Signs and Junaid Jamshed, Shoaib Mansoor has written, composed and produced most of the Vital Signs’ songs. He wrote and composed many of their hit numbers such as Dil Dil Pakistan and Aitebar. He also wrote the lyrics for his debut film “Khuda Kay Liye” and his recently released film “Bol“.

Salman Ahmad, the lead guitarist and founder of Junoon is working on putting together a 20th anniversary box-set (1991-2011), which will feature some of Junoon’s popular old songs as well as some new ones.
