Too many cooks are NOT spoiling the broth!

We have heard of numerous must-watch Pakistani movies hitting theaters in the near future but Pakistan Music lovers also have the right to know what’s going on and what’s next in the pipeline. So here is some spice of what’s up with your favorite artists and bands these days.

Jal - PyaasSo far Jal’s latest album Pyaas has done reasonably good in the market. This should be a big relief for all Jalaholics that the band is not over yet, in fact still doing great. ‘Dil Harri’ was a soulful song with a harmonious video which was released a couple of months ago.

Overload – Ankahi (KM Single Review)

Live and let live! is the motto of Overload’s latest video “Ankahi” which marks a new beginning for Overload who have been in the industry for quite some time but mostly got noticed by their appearance on this season of Coke Studio.

Overload, as they claim, is the loudest band of Pakistan and they have surely proved the point with some of their kick-ass performances in past. They have always seemed to believe on the evolution of music and this is pretty much evident with this very outing too. In this song you would hear a totally different side of Overload which not many of us have seen before and this is something that makes this project rather unusual for the band and fans alike.

Is the Internet the future of music in Pakistan?

November 8, 2009

As Overload and Mekaal Hasan Band release their records without the backing of a record label and pull it off without a glitch, Instep takes a look at the burgeoning music scene, record label battles and how the Internet just might be the way out

Throwing out the blame

OverloadInternet. The inescapable term that has become an intrinsic part of our lives. We tweet through our phones; share pictures and at times send pointed (albeit indirect) messages to people on Facebook… and that is just one small example. According to the CIA Fact Book, Pakistan had an estimated 17.5 million internet users in the year 2009. So if music sales are going down at stores, which they very much are, we can guess that fans are downloading and sharing albums online instead.

Shiraz Uppal set to debut in India with Ankahi

October 12, 2009

Shiraz-UppalShiraz Uppal may have experience of working in Bollywood (Dhoka, Nayak) but when it comes to full-fledged album release across the border, he is still a rookie. But now that is changing. After 2005’s magnificent Jhuki Jhuki, Shiraz is back with Ankahi, his latest record that launched all across Pakistan this Eid. And Shiraz is taking this record to India in the coming weeks.

“I’ve signed up with T-Series. It’s my first album release in India but the record label was very welcoming and liked the record so I’m hopeful,” Shiraz told Instep Today.
