Lux Style Awards 2012: Music Winners & Event Pictures

This year’s Lux Style Awards were held at the Expo Center in Karachi. The awards started with an amazing rap performance by Entity Paradigm‘s Ahmed Ali Butt, who was also the host for the night. The highlight of the show was Ali Zafar’s tribute to the late King of Ghazal Mehdi Hassan sahab.

This year, the awards for music category, especially that for Best Emerging Talent, received deserving attention. The big winners at the awards were Ali Zafar, who received the award for the Best Music Album for “Jhoom” from Mekaal Hasan and Zoe Viccaji, and Quratulain Balouch, who received two awards – Song of the Year and Best Original Soundtrack – for none other than “Woh Humsafar Tha,” which was produced by Waqar Ali for the drama series “Humsafar.”

The award for Best Music Video Director as per LSA voting was given to Adnan Malik for “Mera Bichra Yaar” (by Zoe Viccaji & Strings).

Mehdi Hassan Passes Away (1927-2012)

Today, we lost a true music legend of our country, as Mehdi Hassan passed away at age 84 of organ failure in a private hospital in Karachi. With the passing away of the best ghazal singer of all times, the world has lost a major stalwart of the ghazal world. Vacuum left by him is never going to be filled.

His voice and selection of Ghazals provided soothing calmness to millions of his fans. The ghazal maestro is no more with us, but his golden voice and his unforgettable melodies will keep him alive in our memories. He will be always remembered with great fondness and pride, all over the world.

Music brings people together and the walls which separate, crumble. Mehdi Hassan’s music did just that. He was just as popular and respected in India, which was his birthplace, as he was in Pakistan.

LUX Style Awards 2012: Music Nominations

Nominations for the 11th LUX Style Awards were announced in Karachi this week. The Awards office of Pakistan’s most credible and coveted Awards released nominations in 26 categories in the genres of Film, Music, Television and Fashion.

The LSA Film Jury voted for Bol across all three categories. Shoaib Mansoor’s Bol was the sole film that made the grade and qualified as a bonafide entrant for an Award that is given out for excellence in cinema.

Rachel Viccaji Performed ‘Neray Aa’ with Overload at Coke Studio Season 5

Rachel Viccaji has come a long way since her first appearance on Coke Studio the previous year. Now, doing backing vocals for a second year, Rachel has taken on a daunting challenge – singing lead for a Punjabi song, a language she doesn’t speak.

“This is going to be the first eastern song I’ll be actually singing and not just doing background vocals for. It’s a big step and it’s not just eastern its Punjabi, theth Punjabi,” says Rachel, somewhat nervous and excited about the pressure of her debut performance.

Rachel, a 22-year-old undergraduate student studying psychology at Szabist, has made a name for herself in the performing arts and is now taking her name further as a lead singer on the most celebrated music projects in the country. She worked hard with co-singer Farhad Humayun on a re-invention of Neray Ah, a somewhat controversial song.

The star singer will soon be seen and heard on big screens again, as he is currently recording music for a Bollywood film.

A few hours ago, TIPS Films posted a photo of Atif Aslam in Turkey with Jay Shewakramani, the creative producer of Race 2, and made an official announcement that Atif will be doing songs for their upcoming production.
