Karavan to Reunite With a New Single? [Update]

July 12, 2012

So finally there is good news for the hard rock music lovers as critically acclaimed band “Karavan” announces their comeback.

For those who don’t know, they are the music veterans of the industry. Karavan hails from Karachi and have got some huge hits to their credit. They rose to fame with their single “Aagey hi Aagey”. The band consists of some wonderfully talented people who are masters of their respective departments. Meanwhile their guitarist, Asad Ahmed is also a permanent member of the house band of Coke Studio since its inception. Recently he also came up with a single of his own and shared his intentions of releasing a full length English album as well. Karavan also appeared on the Coke studio Season 3 and performed couple of songs. Which were quite a hit. But things didn’t go well for Karavan after their appearance on Coke Studio and soon after the season ended, they called it a day. The reason was told to be the individual assignments and personal commitments as their band members have been playing with various renowned live pop acts of today.

But now, things seems to be in good shape as the band vocalist Tanseer Dar and the veteran drummer Allan Smith talked to City FM 89’s Wes Malik on drive thru. They said that they are making a comeback and it’s all now depending on Asad Ahmed’s prior tour commitment and how soon he gets free. They also hinted on releasing a new single pretty soon. It’s been a while since they broke up and now after nearly a year they have announced their comeback. This is great news to hear from a mainstream band in an otherwise stagnant music scenario. Karavan’s journey lasted for almost more than 15 years in which they released 4 albums. But last summer Asad Ahmed posted an official statement on bands page:

“After 15 years of rocking you, with Rakh Aas all the way till Saara Jahan last year, we feel the time has come to say goodbye. The reasons are many but in a nutshell i think all of us want to do our own thing musically, domestically and otherwise.”

But one year on, they seem to have settled things and are now gearing up for the comeback which is definitely going to be an exciting one. We wish Karavan the best of luck in their upcoming re-union and hope it turns out to be good and makes a mark in the still waters of the Pakistani music industry.

Update:

Asad Ahmed has denied the reunion claims. He posted on facebook,

“Just to shoot down some rumours about a Karavan reunion. No! It is not in the works and there is no single to be released anytime in the future.”

Now that Asad has denied the reunion, I wonder if Tanseer will release a statement explaining the confusion.

[H/T Wes Malik. Thank you!]
