5 Minutes with Sara Haider [Interview]

We sat down with Sara Haider who recently performed a session for Ufone Uth Records 2.0 and talked about her work, experience with Ufone Uth Records and possible future endeavors.

Q) How did you begin? How do you define your sound?

A) Definitions! Who needs em!

I began by singing religious songs, which I am supposed to stop calling ‘songs’ and to stop saying that I ‘sing’ them (‘RECITE!’).

..and then, naturally, I started singing the Beatles. My brother, Shaan Haider, is a great guitarist and we used to jam all the time. I think that’s probably why I kind of have a sense of how to work well with instrumentalists without being one myself. About 2 years ago, I had my first public performance at t2f. Sabeen, ZAK, Mariam, Rabiya, Raheel, Danish, Suhaee, Sara – those guys really supported me (and still do) and it picked up from there.

Q) What influences your music?

A) Everything, really. It’s like expressing yourself in words when you talk… what you say depends on what you’re thinking about at the time.

Q) How do you find Ufone Uth Records? How was your work experience with them?

A) Really great. I learned a lot, laughed a lot. Panicked. A lot.

I really love the whole Uth team. Special thanks to Mo, for being with us every step of the way, and to Gumby, for all the effort and patience and jet sport.

Q) Any new upcoming projects?

A) Yes. My next project is going to be… a surprise. Hehe.
