Jal Splits, Again!

September 7, 2011

Rumors of Jal‘s split have been around for weeks now and we did notice that there has been something going on between the band members as Farhan decided to go solo, that too with a new producer, Saad Sultan.

Two weeks ago, Farhan Saeed released his first solo single which is a cover of Nusrat Fateh Ali‘s “Halka Halka Suroor”. With that Farhan also launched his official website and YouTube channel. Oddly, the song wasn’t recorded at GMStudioz, instead it was produced by Saad Sultan at Sidereal Studios which is also managed by Farhan Saeed. This was a proof enough that something is up with the band.

Yesterday, Express Tribune confirmed the break up as they spoke to the band about it. There hasn’t been a fight, at least not publicly reported, instead Farhan says he has no hard feelings for other members.

“When you’re in a band, it’s like being in a company where there is a board of directors and all decisions have to be made collectively,” said Farhan. “Being solo now is like being the owner of my own business. I can do the things I want and do them on my terms.”

However, of course, it’s not as simple as Farhan makes it sound. The band has been very popular not only in Pakistan but at India too and since their recent inclusion in the Coke Studio, the band has been again in the news.

Farhan wouldn’t make the decision to go solo merely on the fact that he’s his own boss now. At least that’s what I think.

Anyway, we’re really curious to know who joins the Jal next.
