Song Review:
Sajjad Ali performs this original number on Coke Studio in collaboration with Sanam Marvi. Lyrically the theme centers on the symbolic significance of colour – in a cultural context the traditional points of reference convey a welcome to change and hope for the future. This Coke Studio version presents an alternative perspective, using an uncharacteristically somber musical arrangement to effectively represent the contrast between the joy of celebration and the grief of loss. Musically this co-existent disparity in human circumstance is dramatically expressed, in terms of tonal treatment and chordal structure as well as the combination of range and register of both voices.
