Rabbi Shergill Will Not Be Part of the Coke Studio Season 4

May 23, 2011

If you have been following our Coke Studio Seaosn 4 coverage closely, you’re most likely to know that Rabbi Shergill was here in Pakistan to record for the fourth season of the Coke Studio. We even heard about a potential collaboration with Jal.

While he was here and he recorded for the show, you will not get to hear his music this season. Unfortunately, he was around only for a little time and the recordings done weren’t up to the mark.

When we asked the producer of the show, Rohail Hyatt, he revealed to us

We invited the talented Rabbi Shergill to the Coke Studio platform but his visa got delayed; although he managed to make it at the very last minute we were not able to do much and do justice to his music and the platform given the timelines. It’s just not the way we would like to welcome any outside talent to CS. So, I’ve decided to not use the music.

If the not-upto-the-mark recordings were released by the Coke Studio, this could have hurt the sentiments of the Indian listeners which is why he will not be part of the final show that will be aired.

Regardless of the quality of the content, I really wanted to hear Rabbi’s performances at the Coke Studio. It would be cool if the folks at Coke Studio decide to release some of that content as part of their video logs as a casual jam session or something.
