ReVolt – Bio and Review

March 20, 2010

In the lower depths of Pakistan, heavy metal continues to thrive. The band ReVolt, seems new to the scene, and brings with it a new wave of brutal music to shatter eardrums in delight.

The band compromises of Saiban Khaliq and Osama Aleem on vocals and guitars, Bilal Nizami on bass and Meheryar Ali Khan on drums. The man behind the production is Wijdan Khaliq. ReVolt brings together these innocent looking musicians and turns them into the metalheads that come out to play, brutally.

ReVolt released their self-titled debut album Revolt on the 18th of November 2009, through a record label originating from Bangladesh. It will be released in many countries including Pakistan aswell. Metal reaching far and wide. Take that Bollywood.

The album starts off with war sounds and gun shots in the “The Perspective”. Quaking drums and a variety of hardcore riffs unleash the fury. The melodic solo is perfected and beholds an Arabian feel, like “Termite Faction”. Listening over and over, makes you think that it relates to the war happening today and the perspectives behind it. War is not the answer.

When “Conflict Of Divinity” is mentioned, religion comes to mind. However, it takes a twist into metal. The verses ‘I have faith in my God, I know, all my prayers will be answered’ and ‘I will bow to you’ hit you the hardest. If its time to prayer, you’re going to have a lot of trouble turning this beast of a track off.

“The Next Command”, “The Unutterable Truth’ and “Revolt” are the heaviest tracks of the album. Triumphant vocals pierce the brain while guitar riffs go in for the kill. The solos are also face melting. If you dislike metal, fear not, there are slow-tempo parts to sooth you. Strangely enough, these tracks get less heavy as you go on, but the depth and meanings of the songs never distinguish.

“Bridge Of Despair” gets itself added into my favorite collection. Ambient distorted riffs prepare you for what lies ahead. There’s less growling, but it is still remnant throughout the song. Each solo in this metal concoction proves the guitars aren’t there for show, as slow ghoulish riffs hypnotize the mind.

Composition in the last track “Rabid Justice” proves ReVolt are at the top of they’re game, and other Pakistani acts have something to fear. Especially with a haunting end like that. Again, ReVolt end with in-your-face guitar riffs and brutal vocals. Some singing would also be very nice. But this album is a brutal delicacy. It shows how this band has put together their hard work and talent to put together a masterpiece which will guarantee you whiplash.

These talented metalheads have already been playing shows in Rawalpindi and Islamabad with much support from fellow fans. Recently, ReVolt also played a gig with other acts such as Roxen and Josh. The musical mix is rather bizarre, but also a great way to convert some people into headbanging their brains out.

The band is thriving, gaining more supporters and upping the competition in the metal scene of Pakistan. This talent is not to be wasted. The band has stated it will be releasing they’re next album this summer, so horns up everyone, and feast on the starter. The main course is yet to come.
