Nida Arab’s debut album Pop Star released

January 27, 2010

While the music industry in Pakistan is one that can almost make up for the lack of a film industry, it is quite strange that female music acts in the country are few and far between. In fact, not since Hadiqa Kiani have we had a solo female vocalist who has been taken seriously. This of course does not include Annie who can be taken seriously in a whole other vein. A couple of years ago Nida Arab showed some potential with her first single ‘Bolo Na’ but then just sort of slipped off the radar save for some live mall performances aired on television. But now Nida is back, with her debut album, Pop Star.

What is truly fabulous about Nida is the fact that she can sing. She might still be coming across as a newbie who just wants to be Nazia Hassan, but the way she has been relentlessly pursuing her music career makes us feel she can be and do a lot more.

Nida feels though that she just might be able to establish herself as a singer in her own right. “This album will give me my own unique identity that I have always wanted and worked towards.”

“It was my dream to become a singer and see myself on the stage with a huge crowd appreciating my work,” says Nida, “I have a lot of faith in my talent that I can live my dream one day. And yes! My dream became reality when I signed my contract with Fire Records back in 2008 and my first song ‘Bolo Na’ was launched in the same year – produced by Shuja Haider.”

And it is because of this gumption Nida has that we feel she has what it takes to go the whole nine yards.

On another note, 2010 is shaping upto be a big year for Pakistani music what with all sorts of exciting releases that have seen light of day and the ones lined up in the coming months. Stay tuned for more on Pakistan’s fantastic music industry!
