Salman Ahmad – Prayers for Pakistan

September 27, 2009

Salman AhmedOn Saturday, Sept 12 the UN General Assembly’s gold-and-blue hall was chock-a-block. Those who were there, including the stiff-coloured diplomats, enjoyed themselves to the hilt at an event called Concert for Pakistan. Not only that, all of them prayed in unison for Pakistan’s well-being, especially for the violence-stricken northern areas.

Sponsored by the Pakistan Mission to the United Nations and organised by guitarist Salman Ahmed (remember Junoon?), the evening turned out to be a memorable one. Reputed international artistes sang songs of love, peace and harmony on the occasion, making the audience move to many a groovy beat.

As the concert raged on, celebrities like Sting and intellectuals such as R.K. Pachauri chipped in with their take on the event and called for unity to defeat the menace of extremism and terrorism.

Salman Ahmed’s better half, Samina Ahmed, conducted the show, with her voice trailing off while discussing Pakistans plight. Keep up the good work, guys! And why not organise such shows in your own land?
